Paste-like putty masses - Putty for interior use
Use advice for data set Scope: These EPD applies to paste-like filler mortars from member companies of the Bundesverband der Gipsindustrie e.V. (Federal Association of Gypsum Industry) manufactured in Germany. All companies contributed in the course of preparing the life cycle assessment for this association EPD. Regarding transferability, the approach of a worst-case scenario for transports during supplier delivery and for the disposal of waste was applied. The data relating to the declared unit result from an average product derived from several plants with equally weighted individual data from participating manufacturers. System boundary: In the context of this EPD, the potential environmental impacts of the EPD type 'From cradle to gate with options and with the modules C1–C4 and Module D' were determined. This EPD was prepared in accordance with /DIN EN 15804/+A2 and considers the manufacturing, installation and end-of-life phase as well as the benefits and burdens beyond the system boundary. This corresponds according to /DIN EN 15804/+A2 to product phases A1–A3, C1–C4, D and the additional modules A4 and A5. For all life cycle phases all inputs (raw materials, pre-products, energy and auxiliaries) as well as the arising waste are considered. For all life cycle phases all inputs (raw materials, pre-products, energy and auxiliaries) as well as the arising waste are considered. The following production steps are considered during the manufacturing phase: * Raw material extraction * Provision of energy * Production of pre-products * Production of packaging * Transport of raw materials, pre-products, packaging, auxiliaries and operating materials * Manufacturing process * Transport of production waste to the disposal site * Waste disposal of production waste The following production steps are considered during the installation phase: * Transport from the factory gate to the construction site * Losses of construction products * Treatment of waste from product packaging and as a result of * product losses during the construction process until * complete waste treatment or until disposal of residual waste * Installation of the products into the building, including the production and transport of auxiliaries and operating materials or any energy and water use for installation or for operation on the construction site. This module also includes processing steps of the product on the construction site The following production steps are considered during the end-of-life phase: * Dismantling including deconstruction or demolition of the product from the building, including an initial sorting on the construction site * Transport of the retired product as part of waste treatment, e.g., to a recycling center, as well as the transport of the waste, e.g., to final disposal * Waste valorization (energy recovery of packaging waste) * Waste disposal including physical pre-treatment and landfill operation The life cycle phases B1–B7 (use phase) are deliberately not considered. Because the filler remains in the building on the substrate unchanged until replacement, no environmental impacts are expected during the use phase.
Technical purpose of product or process With regard to the application on gypsum board surfaces and joints, the manufacturer's instructions should be observed depending on the edge profile of the gypsum boards, any recommendation to use reinforcement strips, and the respective desired quality level. Paste-like spackling compounds should only be applied at temperatures above +5 °C.

General comment on data set Paste-like putties are ready-to-use, manual and, if necessary, also machine-processable filling and finishing putties according to /DIN EN 13963/ or renovation putty according to /DIN EN 15824/ for interior use (excluding areas with elevated humidity and surfaces exposed to splash water). They can be used for joint and surface finishing on gypsum boards, gypsum fibre boards, plaster, gypsum wallboards and mineral substrates as well as other substrates specified by the manufacturer. The putties are air-drying.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
