Technical purpose of product or process PCR-slugs from cast strip are used as a pre-material for the subsequent cold extrusion process, which takes place outside the EPD system boundary. Cold extrusion is used to produce packaging such as tubes and cans. The production of other technical applications such as housings, flanges, etc. are also possible.

Technology description including background system PCR-slugs made of cast strip are manufactured in accordance with AWW's quality management system, certified to ISO 9001 and IATF 16949. The chemical composition and the mechanical properties of PCR-slugs from cast strip depend on the used PCR-materials. In the following table, only the physical properties of ultra-pure aluminium Al99.99 are given as guide values, which vary for different aluminium (min. 99.0% Al) and aluminium alloys (max. 99.0%). This environmental product declaration refers to a declared unit of 1 kg of PCR-slugs made from casting strip. This EPD declares the environmental impacts of PCR-slugs made from casting strip produced at the Aluminium-Werke Wutöschingen AG & Co. KG in Wutöschingen (Germany). The products considered do not differ in terms of their basic composition. Therefore, a high representativeness of the declared results can be assumed.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
