Textile screens - Textile screens exterior awnings
Use advice for data set Scope: The results of the EPD are representative for ROMA KG textile screen systems (trademark: 'ROMA Zipscreen'), manufactured at the sites Burgau, Rostock, Oschatz, Essingen and Ludwigshafen (Germany). Here, individual components of the sun protection systems are produced. The concrete configuration of the Textilscreen components was selected on the basis of the bestseller. For each component, the variant with the highest environmental burden was considered. The basis of the EPD is production data from the year 2022. System boundary: Type of EPD: cradle to gate with options. A1-A3 The production stage includes the provision of raw materials and the manufacture of semi-finished products and externally produced components as well as their transport to the ROMA plants. All expenditures for manufacturing processes at ROMA were considered (including energy and water provision, provision of auxiliaries, disposal of waste). The transport expenditures (A2) as well as the manufacturing processes (A3) are based on product-specific data. The manufacturing processes for raw materials, semi-finished products and externally produced components (A1) are based on background data from Sphera's MLC databases. A4 Transport to the place of installation (truck, diesel, 100 km). A5 Installation of the products: Thermal recovery of packaging waste. B6 Energy demand in the use phase. The energy demand is calculated from the power consumption of the used motor and the operating duration during the defined service cycles (10,000 cycles). C1 Deinstallation of the products: Manual removal (unloaded). C2 Transport to the disposal site (truck, diesel, 50 km). C3 End-of-life stage: Waste treatment (thermal recovery of plastics, shredding of electronic waste). C4 Landfilling of inert materials. D Recycling potential (including the melting process and credit for recovered metal) as well as potentials from energy substitution of the thermal valorisation in modules A3, A5 and C3. For the thermal and electrical energy generated in modules A5 and C3 by the thermal treatment of packaging and product waste, the potentials from energy substitution through the electricity grid mix and the thermal energy from natural gas were calculated using European datasets. Betrachtungszeitraum: Time period under consideration: The period studied for collecting production data refers to the year 2022.
Technical purpose of product or process ROMA Textilscreens are externally mounted vertical awnings for shading building openings. The respective national regulations apply to the use of the products.
Classification
Class name : Hierarchy level

  • IBUCategories: 02 Bauprodukte / Fassaden / Sonnenschutzsysteme
General comment on data set ROMA Textilscreens are external vertical awnings for sun protection. The fabric consists of a glass-fiber fabric with a PVC jacket. It is available at ROMA KG in a variety of colors and openness factors. The fabric is mounted on a shaft in an extruded aluminum housing and can be stowed in very little space. External ROMA Textilscreens have good shading properties. Through attenuation effects, solar radiation is greatly reduced and cooling energy to improve indoor comfort during heat periods is reduced. The fabrics can be made semi-transparent, so that view-through remains at favorable attenuation factors. The view-through for observers always runs from the darker side to the lighter side. A strength of the system is its high wind stability. The system can reliably shade even at high wind speeds with consistent performance. The tested wind load according to DIN EN 13659 reaches the highest rating (Class 6) for element mounting directly on the substrate with a fully enclosed attachment around the perimeter and closed fabric. According to DIN EN 13561, wind class 3 is always reached.

Technological representativeness
Technology description including background system The weight per unit area of a representative ROMA textile screen is 6.27 kg (excluding packaging materials). A width/length ratio of 2.0 m (width) x 2.5 m (hanging length) is assumed to be representative. This results in a total area of 5 m². All material and energy flows used in this representative sun shading system are scaled to the defined declared unit of 1 m² for the calculation of the LCA results according PCR.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
