Concrete pavers and slabs with 8 cm thickness
Technical purpose of product or process Concrete pavers are used, among other things, as outdoor paving for industrial and commercial roads, village roads, bus traffic and parking areas, and other paths and squares on public and private traffic areas.

Technology description including background system The declared products are paving stones consisting of a two-layered concrete, the face mix and base mix concrete, with a gray face mix. At the factory, the aggregates are delivered and stored in bulk boxes or silos. The concrete raw materials such as sand, grit, gravel, cement, stone meal, recycled rock aggregates, additives, and possibly color pigments are dosed in a mixer and mixed with fresh or processed water to form a moist concrete. This is done according to predefined, factory-specific mix designs. The mixed concrete is transported to a concrete board machine, which fills the concrete into steel molds and compresses it into paving stones of various sizes and appearances through a compacting and vibrating process. The concrete base mix is the structural, mass-wise largest part of the stone and is filled first. The face mix, which is added and compacted afterwards, is mechanically inseparably connected to the base mix. The face mix layer consists of differently colored rock aggregates, cements, and color pigments and forms the later visible surface of the paving stone. After compaction, the still moist concrete stones are subjected to a quality control, moved into a drying chamber, and remain there until they are put on stock or, if necessary, subjected to surface finishing. Once the stones leave the drying chamber, they are subjected to another quality control on the so-called dry side and stacked on a pallet in layers. The pallet is covered with a protective foil, equipped with the product label, including the CE marking if applicable, and placed in the factory stockyard. From there, the goods can be sold and shipped to customers. Paving stones marked as scrap are recycled and reintroduced into the process as recycled aggregates.

1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties on these results are high or as there is limited experiences with the indicator.
